Collection help

A personal account is required for creating an image collection.

Selecting images

If you want to select a certain image or images for the collection, tick the checkbox besides the image . Alternatively, the button "Select all images" allows you to select all search results of one page directly.

Now all selected images can be saved to the collection or a new collection can be created.

Creating a new collection

To create a new collection click the button "Store images in ..." and press the button "New collection". Collection06 Now you can give your collection a title including a description and add keywords.

Example

You are attending a class on Renaissance Sculpture in Italy. You have several options to create collections for individual classes:

Title:Donatello
Description:Class - Renaissance Sculpture
Keywords:Florence, David, Bronze, 1386-1466
Title:Michelangelo
Description:Class - Renaissance Sculpture
Keywords:Florence, David, Marble, 1475-1564, St. Peter's Basilica, Pieta.

Collection01

In doing so, collections of various artists can be allocated to a particular class and linked by using keywords.

Example: You are using the keyword "David". The search results show the collections of Donatello and Michelangelo.

Saving images

After selecting images by ticking the checkbox and pressing the button "Store images in", select the image collection you wish to use in the drop down menu. Collection07 The images are copied automatically to the selected collection.

Please note that selecting images is only possible for the actual screen. Save the selected images first before switching to another screen.

Working with collections

The content of the collection can be sorted by using the following criteria:

  • Artist
  • Title
  • Location
  • Credits
  • Database name

You have the option to view the images as a list List with essential metadata or inthe Gallery Gallery mode. Collection02 Collection03

A presentation can be created by using the selected images from a collection. For detailed instructions on how to create a presentation refer to "Presentation".

Delete Deletes an image from the collection.

Management of the image collection

The submenu offers the following options:

  • Own: Lists all own collections
  • Shared: Lists all shared collections
  • Public: Lists all public collections
  • Meta-Image: Lists all collections available to you that refer to a Meta-Image project
  • Create new collection

Working with shared collections

Under "Shared" you can see a list of all collections that have been shared with you. There are both "shared for viewing" and "shared for editing" ones.

Collections shared for editing may be edited freely by you and other collaborators. But only the owner may change the title or modify the access rights.

Collections shared for viewing may be viewed, forked and downloaded. Only the owner or collaborators may edit the collection. If you would like to work on such a collection you can fork it or contact the collection's owner to add you as a collaborator.

Forks of shared collections will be marked private initially and added to your list of collections. Access rights are not inherited from the parent collection.

Working with public collections

Under "Public" you can see a list of all publicly accessible collections. There are both "publicly readable" and "publicly writable" ones.

Publicly readable collections may be viewed, forked and downloaded by any user. Only the owner or collaborators may edit the collection. If you would like to work on such a collection you can fork it or contact the collection's owner to add you as a collaborator.

Publicly writable collections may be edited by anyone. But only the owner may change the title or modify the access rights.

Forks of public collections will be marked private initially and added to your list of collections. Access rights are not inherited from the parent collection.

Functions for working with collections

The icons next to the heading of the open collection lead to different functions for working with the collection.

Add_to_sidebar Stores the collection in the sidebar.

Download A ZIP archive of all images in the current collection will be created and offered as download. Please be aware that large collections can take a long time to create or may fail completely.

Fork A copy of the current collection will be added to your list of owned collections and opened directly.

Meta_image Meta_image_edited Opens the collection's content in the Meta-Image editor (the second symbol indicates that a Meta-Image project already exists for the collection). Please make sure you have the latest version of Java and at least Flash Player 9 installed. For further information please see the Meta-Image manual or the Meta-Image homepage. There are also some video tutorials that illustrate the handling of the editor.

Edit Edits the header of the collection (title, description, thumbnail, public access).

Delete Deletes the entire collection.

Feed Adds a feed of this collection.
